Prescribed Fire (aka Prescribed Burns) is a controversial subject in forest resource management. Those in favor say that these burns create healthy wildlands. They reduce the concentrations of fuel and thus the intensity of future burns, help native plants to sprout, eliminate non-native species, and provide living spaces for birds, in addition to other benefits.
